Penn State University awards millionth degree during summer commencement

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WPVI) -- Penn State University has marked a milestone more than 170 years in the making.

The university awarded its one millionth degree Saturday during its summer commencement ceremony at its University Park campus.

Penn State was founded in 1855 as the Farmers' High School.

Penn State is the third university in the United States to surpass the one million mark, joining Big Ten rivals Michigan and Indiana.
