Officials from New Jersey and Delaware joined the Delaware River Bay Authority to mark the 75th Anniversary of the First Span of the Delaware Memorial Bridge.
The bridge closed to cars in 2021 after inspections revealed it was deteriorating.
The 700-foot-long bridge, originally opened in 1966, underwent extensive upgrades, including the replacement and widening of the concrete deck, structural steel work, substructure repairs, and fresh painting.
Crews are currently working on emergency repairs to the Market Street Bridge in Philadelphia.
Local media reported that scores of tourists were on the bridge when it collapsed, plunging many into the swollen river.
Dramatic video shows the Cuauhtémoc's masts hitting the underside of the bridge and breaking as the vessel passes underneath, with pieces falling down toward the deck.
